Instagram and Facebook video downloader extension
KlipJar's free extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and Firefox saves the Instagram or Facebook video you're looking at, with sound, in the quality you pick. It uses the account you're already signed in to in that browser, so it also works for your own login-only posts. No KlipJar account, no pop-ups.
How to install it
It takes about 10 seconds. The orange marker in each picture shows what to click.
1. Open the store page
Click the blue “Add to Chrome” button. In Edge, Brave and Opera the button may say “Get” or “Add to …”; it does the same.
2. Confirm
Chrome lists the sites KlipJar works on (Instagram and Facebook). Click “Add extension”.
3. Pin it
Click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right, then the pin next to KlipJar, so its icon stays in the toolbar.
4. Use it on a post
Open the Instagram or Facebook post, click the KlipJar icon, pick a quality and click Download. Or paste the link on klipjar.com.
What it does
- Adds a KlipJar button to your browser toolbar. On an Instagram or Facebook post, click it to see the qualities the post offers, then download the one you want.
- Saves video with sound. When a platform keeps picture and sound apart, the extension joins them on your computer into one MP4.
- Lets klipjar.com fetch Instagram and Facebook posts that only signed-in people can see, in the same browser.
What it can see, and what it keeps
The extension works only on instagram.com, facebook.com, their file servers and klipjar.com. It reads the post you're on, using the session you're already signed in with, and never asks for your password. The list of what you've downloaded stays in your browser. Details are in the extension privacy policy.
Questions about the extension
Is the KlipJar extension free?
Yes. It is free in the Chrome Web Store and on Firefox Add-ons, with no account and no paid version.
Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave and Opera (all from the Chrome Web Store), and Firefox (from Firefox Add-ons). It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS computers.
Does it work on a phone?
No. Phone browsers do not run these extensions. On a phone, paste the link on klipjar.com, or use the KlipJar Android app from the share menu.
Which sites does it work on?
Instagram and Facebook. For TikTok, X, Pinterest and Reddit you do not need the extension: paste the link on klipjar.com.
Can it save private or login-only posts?
It can save posts that you can already see in that browser while signed in, using your own session, such as your own login-only posts. It cannot reach anything your account cannot see. Only save content you own or have the right to save.
Why does it ask for access to Instagram and Facebook?
To read the post you are on and find its video files. It works only on instagram.com, facebook.com, their file servers and klipjar.com, and it never asks for your password.
Does it remove watermarks?
No. It saves the file the platform itself serves, without adding anything.
I added it but nothing happens. What now?
Pin the KlipJar icon to your toolbar (step 3 above), then reload the Instagram or Facebook tab. In Firefox, also make sure KlipJar is allowed on the site: click the puzzle-piece icon, then KlipJar, then Always allow.
