How to download a Facebook video on iPhone
To download a public Facebook video on iPhone, copy the post’s link in the Facebook app, paste it into klipjar.com in Safari, tap Download, then tap Save video and choose Save Video. The file goes straight into Photos. This works for public videos and Reels, not for friends-only posts, closed groups or Stories.
What you need
An iPhone with Safari and a link to a public Facebook video or Reel. Nothing to install, and no account on KlipJar or anywhere else.
Facebook’s own Save option is not a download. It adds the video to your Saved list inside Facebook, and no file lands in Photos. To keep a copy on the phone, you need the steps below.
Only save videos you have the right to keep. Downloading a video doesn’t change who owns it.
Step by step
- In the Facebook app, open the video and tap Share, then Copy link. On a post in your feed, the ••• menu also has Copy link.
- Open Safari and go to klipjar.com. Paste the link into the box and tap Get media. Short fb.watch links and long m.facebook.com addresses work exactly as copied.
- Pick a size (see the next section). Tap Download and keep the page open while the file comes in.
- When the page says “Ready. Tap Save video below.”, tap Save video. The iPhone share menu opens.
- Tap Save Video. The video appears in Photos, under Recents. Save to Files is in the same menu if you’d rather keep it in the Files app.
Which size to pick
Facebook decides which files exist for each video, and KlipJar lists only those. Standard is one MP4 with the picture and the sound together. When Facebook offers it, KlipJar selects it for you, and it is the safe choice.
Some videos list more sizes. A size shown under Video has sound: KlipJar fetches the picture and the sound track separately and joins them in Safari before saving, so you’ll see “Merging audio…” for a moment. A size shown under “Video only (no sound)” is the bare picture with no sound at all. If you want sound and you’re unsure, pick Standard.
On 28 October 2026 we ran an older public video from Facebook’s own Page through KlipJar. Facebook offered exactly one file for it: Standard, 400×224 pixels, H.264 video with stereo AAC sound, 1.18 MB for 74 seconds. That is small by today’s standards, and no downloader can make it sharper. You get the size Facebook stored, never more.
How the file reaches your iPhone
Facebook often stops Safari from reading its video files directly. When that happens, KlipJar’s server fetches the file at the moment you tap Download and streams it straight on to your iPhone. Nothing is stored on the server and no copy is kept.
The file isn’t re-encoded on the way. In our test, the streamed file was byte-for-byte identical to the one Facebook serves, and KlipJar adds no watermark of its own.
If many people are saving at once, you may see “Lots of people are saving right now. You’re in line…”. Leave the page open; KlipJar waits and tries again by itself.
If you opened KlipJar inside the Facebook app
Links tapped inside Facebook open in Facebook’s built-in browser, not in Safari. The iPhone share menu often won’t open there, and KlipJar then shows “The share menu didn’t open. Open this post in Safari instead, where saving works.”
Tap ⋯ at the top of the screen and choose Open in browser, or copy the video link and open Safari yourself. Then repeat the steps above.
To skip Safari’s address bar next time, add KlipJar to your Home Screen. The KlipJar for iPhone page shows how.
If the video is your own
Your original file is better than any download. Check Photos on the phone or camera that recorded it first, because Facebook stores a compressed copy.
For videos you posted long ago, Facebook’s Download your information tool exports a copy of your own posts, including photos and videos. Its place in the settings has moved over the years, so search Facebook’s settings for “Download your information”.
Troubleshooting
- “This post is login-only, so KlipJar can’t fetch it from here.” The video is friends-only, sits in a closed group, or is behind an age or region check. The website can’t fetch it. The KlipJar browser extension can save your own or permitted content from your signed-in session, but it runs in desktop browsers, not on iPhone.
- “Facebook wouldn’t show this video to us.” Same cause: Facebook only shows this video to signed-in viewers. Open the link in Safari while signed out of Facebook to check.
- “This video is private or has been removed.” The post was deleted or its audience changed. Copy the link again from the post itself.
- The share menu has no Save Video: on an older iOS version, tap Download to Files instead. Then open the video in the Files app, tap Share and choose Save Video.
- You can’t find the video: look in Photos under Recents, or in Files under Browse, iCloud Drive, Downloads. More in where downloaded videos go.
- The video has no sound: you probably picked a size under “Video only (no sound)”. Pick Standard instead. See why a downloaded video has no sound.
- The video won’t play: see downloaded video won’t play.
What KlipJar can’t do
On iPhone, KlipJar only reaches what a signed-out visitor can see. Friends-only posts, private or closed groups, Stories and videos in Messenger chats are out of reach. It can’t raise a video above the size Facebook stored, and it doesn’t support YouTube. For TikTok, Instagram and X, the general iPhone guide covers the same Save Video flow. The video belongs to the person who posted it, so credit them if you share it.

Facebook’s Help Center pages couldn’t be fetched for this guide, so Facebook’s menus are described as they appear in the app. Measurement: one public video from Facebook’s Page, run through KlipJar and checked with ffprobe on 28 October 2026.
