How to save a TikTok, Instagram or X video to your iPhone’s Photos
On iPhone, a downloaded video lands in the Files app first, not in Photos. That one detail is behind most “it downloaded but I can’t find it” moments. Here is the whole path, start to finish.
Before you start
You need a link to a public post and a browser. Safari works best because it hands downloads straight to the Files app; Chrome for iPhone also saves to Files. Nothing needs to be installed, and you do not need an account anywhere.
Only save videos you own or have the right to keep. Downloading does not change who owns a video.
Step by step
- In TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, Pinterest or Reddit, tap Share on the post and choose Copy link.
- Open Safari and go to klipjar.com. Tap the field, paste the link and tap Get media.
- Pick a quality and tap Download. When Safari asks whether to download the file, tap Download.
- Tap the blue download arrow at the edge of Safari’s address bar to see the finished file, or open the Files app and look in Downloads (under On My iPhone or iCloud Drive, depending on your settings).
- Open the video, tap the Share button and choose Save Video. It now appears in Photos, in Recents.
If the video opens in a new tab instead
A few platforms, Facebook above all, do not let a web page read their files directly. When that happens KlipJar tells you up front, and Download opens the video in a new tab. In Safari, tap the Share button on that tab; Save to Files is usually offered there. Then move it to Photos from the Files app as above.
If your iOS version does not offer that option, the reliable fallbacks are a computer, or the KlipJar Android app on an Android phone.
Saving just the sound
Where a platform allows it, the audio options give you an M4A file, or an MP3 converted on your own device. Audio files stay in the Files app; Photos only holds pictures and video. You can play them from Files or add them to another app from the Share menu.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing happens when you tap Download: make sure Safari is not in a mode that blocks downloads (Screen Time content restrictions can do this), then try again.
- The file is in Files but will not play: it may still be finishing. Wait for the download arrow in Safari to complete.
- The video has no sound: see why a downloaded video has no sound.
- The post is private or needs a login: the website can only fetch what a logged-out visitor can see.
