Where do downloaded videos go on Android, iPhone, Windows and Mac?
On Android, Windows and Mac, a video you download in a browser goes to the Downloads folder (on Android the folder is named Download). On iPhone, Safari saves to Downloads in the Files app, not to Photos. Below is the exact place for each device, how to open it, and where KlipJar's own files end up.
The short answer
- Android, Chrome: the Download folder in your phone's internal storage. Open it from the Files app (Files by Google, or My Files on Samsung phones).
- Android, KlipJar app: videos go to Movies/KlipJar and audio to Music/KlipJar, so videos show up in your gallery app.
- iPhone and iPad, Safari: Files app → Browse → iCloud Drive → Downloads, unless you changed it.
- iPhone, KlipJar website: tap Save video, then Save Video, and the video goes into Photos under Recents. Audio stays in the Files app.
- Windows: C:\Users\<your name>\Downloads in Chrome and Edge, unless you changed it.
- Mac: /Users/<your name>/Downloads, the Downloads folder in the Finder sidebar.
Every browser lets you change this folder. If a file is not in the place above, the browser's own downloads list is the quickest way to find it. Each section below shows where that list is.
Android
When you save a video on klipjar.com in Chrome, it goes to the Download folder. That is Android's standard folder for files the user downloads. To find it:
- In Chrome, tap More (the three dots at the top right) and then Downloads. If your address bar is at the bottom, swipe up on it and tap Downloads.
- Tap the video to play it, or open the Files app to see everything you have downloaded.
- On a Samsung phone, open My Files and tap the Downloads category. My Files sits in the Samsung folder on the home screen; if you can't see it, swipe up and search for it.
If your gallery app doesn't show a video from Download, the Files app will. You can play it from there or move it to another folder.
The KlipJar Android app works differently. It saves through Android's own media storage: videos to Movies/KlipJar and audio to Music/KlipJar. Those files appear in the gallery and in the app's Library tab. The share-menu guide shows the whole flow.
iPhone and iPad
Safari treats a download as a file, and files go to the Files app. Photos only gets a video when you save it there yourself. That gap is why so many people say a video downloaded but they can't find it.
On klipjar.com, KlipJar closes the gap for you. When the video is ready, tap Save video, then tap Save Video in the share menu. It goes straight into Photos, under Recents. The iPhone Photos guide walks through it with every tap.
If you tapped Download to Files instead, or saved audio, look in the Files app:
- Open Files. If it isn't on your Home Screen, swipe down from the middle of the Home Screen and search for Files.
- Tap Browse at the bottom, then iCloud Drive, then Downloads.
- Not there? Go back to Browse and check On My iPhone (On My iPad), then Downloads. Safari may have been set to save there.
In Safari itself, the Downloads button next to the address field lists recent downloads. Tap a file in that list to open it.
Windows
Chrome and Edge both use your Downloads folder, C:\Users\<your name>\Downloads, until you choose another one. Open File Explorer and click Downloads in the left pane.
- Chrome: recent downloads appear to the right of the address bar. Point at a file and choose Show in folder. The full list is under More → Downloads. To change the folder, go to More → Settings → Downloads and click Change.
- Edge: open Settings and more → Settings → Downloads. The folder in use is shown under Location, with a Change button next to it.
- Firefox: click the Downloads button in the toolbar to see your five most recent files, or Show all downloads for the rest. The folder is set in Settings, under Files and applications → Downloads → Save files to.
Mac
Browsers on a Mac save to /Users/<your name>/Downloads by default. In Finder it is Downloads in the sidebar.
- Safari: click the Show Downloads button near the top right of the window, then the magnifying glass next to a file to reveal it in Finder. The button only appears once you have downloaded something. To change the folder, choose Safari → Settings → General → File download location.
- Chrome: same as on Windows. Recent downloads sit to the right of the address bar, and the folder is set under Settings → Downloads.
- Firefox: same as on Windows. The Downloads button is in the toolbar.
Search by name: KlipJar files start with klipjar-
When KlipJar saves a file, it names it klipjar- followed by words from the post's title, for example klipjar-sunset-timelapse.mp4. If you have lost a file, type klipjar into the search box of the Files app, File Explorer or Finder.
One exception: when Instagram blocks the browser from reading its file, KlipJar opens the video in a new tab and you save it from there (⌘S on a Mac, Ctrl+S on Windows, or a long-press on a phone). That file keeps whatever name Instagram gives it.
Troubleshooting
- The download list says it finished but the file isn't in the folder: you may have moved or deleted it. The browser's list can outlive the file; Apple notes Safari may not find a file you moved.
- The file is there but won't play: it may still be downloading. Wait for the browser to finish, then try again. A video that plays without audio is covered in why a downloaded video has no sound.
- On iPhone, the video is in Files but not in Photos: open it in Files, tap Share and choose Save Video.
- On Android, the video is in Files but not in the gallery: play it from the Files app, or save it with the KlipJar app, whose Movies/KlipJar folder shows up in the gallery.
- You saved several files and lost track: the Library page on klipjar.com lists what you saved on that device.
What KlipJar keeps (and doesn't)
KlipJar does not store your files on its server. TikTok and Pinterest files, and Facebook files your browser can't read directly, stream through our server with no copy kept. Other files come straight from the platform to your device. The Library page is a list kept in your own browser. Its option to keep a playable copy is off by default; when you turn it on, your last 15 saves (up to 300 MB) also stay inside KlipJar on that device.
So once a file is saved, the folders above are the only place it lives. If you delete it, download it again from the original post.
